J. S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in G Major for Organ, BWV 541

How many people does it take to play an organ? In this case, it takes three: one to play the notes, and two to pull the stops. This video shows us the angle from a behind-the-scenes camera at a 2012 concert. For an exuberant and virtuosic piece by Bach, organist Vincent de Vries has his hands and feet fully occupied at the keyboards. At first, his assistants don’t seem to have much to do, but as the fugue gets bigger and bigger, the helpers spring into action.

Performed by Vincent de Vries at the Bätz organ of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in The Hague, Netherlands (8 minutes)
